Let's get real for a second. With more than 6 million1 women struggling with fertility issues in the US, the more knowledge with have on the subject, the better.

Many of us who are trying to conceive, when seeking medical advice, search the web for as much information as we can before making steps into an actual physicians office.

Whether you are just planning for your future, or struggling yourself, or know of someone who is, family planning is on the minds of many of us. With that being said, knowing some key terms might be helpful when exploring the web. Here are some popular terms you ought to know:


Oocyte Cryopreservation: Also known as freezing your eggs. Oocyte cryopreservation is a procedure that allows a woman to preserve her eggs. This procedure allows a woman to postpone her pregnancy and ability to conceive a child to a later date.

Intrauterine Insemination: A fertility procedure in which the sperm is placed in a woman’s uterus near the fallopian tubes with the intention that the chance of conceiving a child will increase.

In Vitro Fertilization: The fertilization of the egg involving combining the female’s egg and the male’s sperm in a laboratory and transferring the egg back to the woman’s uterus to assist with the conception of a child between a man and woman.

Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome: A bodily response to taking medicines that help with the growth of eggs, in which the ovaries are enlarged and women experience high estradiol levels.
